So tonight i saw Explosion in the Sky, it was cool.
I took the train into the city center, walked to the venue and waited around for my friend. When he got there we went to buy tickets which was a weird experience. Some guy walked up to my friend trying to get rid of a ticket so he scored his for £15 instead of £18 so he was happy since he just got screwed out of £5 for parking. Then i go to the box office and the woman tells me tickets are £20 so i told her to forget it but then i realised i never had many other options until right in front of me some dude sells his ticket to some other guy and im guessing he sold it dirt cheap because the guy who just bought it came right over to me asking if i wanted to buy it for £15, hah! It was some weird print out from ordering online so i make him get it scanned to make sure it was real and then bought it from him. Too bad i never spoke to the other original owner who just wanted rid of his extra ticket.
Anyway so we walked into the venue and my friend got ripped off once again, he bought a drink for £2.80 and i thought he ordered beer but when the woman gave him his drink i shouted (by mistake) ‘What the fuck is that!’ - Turns out it was just a coke, the barmaid wasn’t impressed but then again nether was I. So we headed to the front of the venue and everyone was just hanging back to the center of the room, it was weird. Some English band played, they looked really bored. The main guitarist/singer claimed he was ‘Really thrilled and excited’ with the slowest and most boring delivery ever, it was pretty funny.
EITS came on a while later and the crowd kinda got closer, it was still pretty weird.. I turned around midset and there was just rows and rows of maybe 1000 people just standing motionless, really strange thing to see at a show.
The band were good but they chose not to play much popular stuff & some songs got real boring, especially the last song. 12 minute songs with like 5 minutes of the end just repeating it’s self kinda get older after a while. You could tell everyone felt the same way. Not trying to take a dig at the band or anything but i guess it’s just how that kinda music is. I wish they played First Breath After Coma but they never which was kinda weird since im sure it’s their most popular song, i think it ended up on the new Bing commercial too.
Overall it was a good night, could have been better but whatever. I guess im just used to jumping around in big circles at punk rock shows but it was a cool experience.
Okay, bye.
